GOP plans wave of White House probes

If President Barack Obama needed any more incentive to go all out for Democrats this fall, here it is: Republicans are planning a wave of committee investigations targeting the White House and Democratic allies if they win back the majority.

Everything from the microscopic – the New Black Panther party – to the massive –- think bailouts – is on the GOP to-do list, according to a half-dozen Republican aides interviewed by POLITICO.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0810/41506.html

I don't think this is the right move. If the Republicans win, they should concentrate on limiting the size of gubmint and restoring the people's faith in the economy and the government.

Besides, everybody already knows how corrupt the dems are, it has been all over the news. There has been enough dem vote buying to gag a maggot on a gut wagon.

Come to the Tea Party - Free Lunch Provided

Joe T. Partee gets up
And rushes to the john with haste
Then uses municipal water
To flush away his waste.

Joe T. Partee pulls out
On to a road so smooth
One funded by tax dollars
Now he's really in the groove.

Joe T. Partee survives
At the busy intersections
Because there's lights and signs
Put up at Public Works' direction.

Joe T. Partee gets hungry at noon
Has some veggies, meat, and dairy
I wonder if he knows
It's the gov that keeps food sanitary.

Joe T. Partee books a flight
"Hey, get me a reservation!"
Isn't it nice the feds
Are monitoring maintenance in aviation?

Joe T. Partee picks up the kids
They're getting educated
At those good ole public schools
With public teachers so dedicated.

Joe T. Partee is protected
By the firefighters and the cops
Isn't it really great
That their vigilance never stops?

Joe T. Partee gets home
And flops in the La-Z-Boy
Then flips on Faux News
And his brain they begin to destroy.

Joe T. Partee's now in heaven
There's Billo and Sean and Beck
They all can light his fuse
Because his brain's a wreck.

Joe T. Partee loves it all
The racism, hatred and fear
Because the guys selling this crap
Are his friends so dear.

Joe T. Partee hates gov and taxes
Despite his daily needs
He's forgotten all that now
As Billo caters to his greed.

Joe T. Partee's at the Palace
To miss a meeting he couldn't bear
Cause he's got his nose buried
In the rear of the GOP party chair.

Joe T. Partee is so typical
Of this crazy bunch
They're all just hypocrites
Cause they believe in a free lunch!

Panel removes hurdle for mosque near Ground Zero

A New York panel voted to clear the way this morning for the construction of a mosque a few blocks from the Ground Zero site in Manhattan.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission ruled that the 152-year-old building (pictured at right) at the planned site of the mosque is not a historical site, and can be demolished, reports The New York Post.

The Anti-Defamation League and high-profile Republicans like Sarah Palin and Former Speaker Newt Gingrich have expressed their opposition to the mosque, saying it is too close to the site of the 9-11 attacks. Gingrich said America is experiencing "an Islamist cultural-political offensive designed to undermine and destroy our civilization."

Making changes

NAFTA is a good example of what happens when there appears to be elements that are attractive to both sides. As a conservative I like the idea of unfettered trade. The liberal side thought it good for foreigners to elevate their standard of living through opening up trade with the US. The result was devastating. Instead of improving the standard of living for foreigners, making it possible for them to afford American made goods, all it did was enable the formerly American made goods to be made by the foreigners. Big business saw this as an opportunity to make more profits in the short run. In the long run however, the wealthy business owners will have to live in gated communities in the US just as the their foreign counterparts do in their home countries. So what is the solution?

We could change our trade policies or we could change the way businesses are taxed on the profits that are produced from foreign opperations. Perhaps some combination of the two.

I believe that a Mexican owned company doing trade with the US should be dealt with according to free trade agreements, but an American owned company should not have the same privileges. Why should we reward fellow citizens for moving production to another nation? This effectively takes US dollars out of the US economy just as much as Mexican workers in the US sending money home does, if not more. American companies doing business in China, making Chinese made goods for the Chinese is different than these companies making goods for the US market.

Changing the way taxes are collected on goods produced in the US, such as the VAT tax, would do even more harm to our economy. Instituting the FAIR tax would help level the playing field, but it is too big of a change to be acceptable, so I propose an alternative:

I propose that we eliminate the taxes on companies that produce physical goods in the US. Not all companies produce goods, so this is not a universal elimination of business or corporate taxes, it is only for those who produce goods, not services. The effect would be an increased investment opportunity for manufacturing and increased emplyment in jobs that require physical labor and skill. This should have union support as well as management. It should be supportable by Dems as well as Reps, but I would like your views as well as other possible solutions that should be acceptable to both sides of the aisle. It should also be something that could be implemented by this President and this congress, before the November elections.

What happened to customer service in our society? Do merchants really think that people will continue to buy from them if their employees are rude and don't bother to even say Thank you?
