Hey ya'll. I used to come on the old Crossville Talks many moons ago. But I live inthe Chicago area....why visit hte boards? Cuz, my sisters frequent these boards. I used to love watching all the trouble brew and get into lively discussions. And...I am back. Why? Well...I am moving to Crossville. Not sure if I will stay, may end up finding fabulous employment for myself or my hubby somewhere else, in the TN region...and will eventually then flee the town...but for now....we are going to settle in to Crossville because I miss my family and I have these adorable little girls aged 2 & 3 who have never met them....and I need them to build lovely relationships with family, I mean....seriously!

So hi. Have tons of questions and will be back soon. Just wanted to give ya'll heads up I am a newbie, moving in sometime soon. :-) Have a fantastic day.

Purpose

Recently a man who worked his whole life finally retired at 72 years old. A month after he retired he passed away and someone remarked that it did not make sense that God would take him now that he was able to enjoy his retirement. I want to address this issue because it is important for all of us to understand the big picture.

The big picture begins in understanding our origins, as well as, our destination. That is one of the reasons that I spent so much of my research time in the beginning chapters of the book of Genesis and in the scientific research fields of geology, soils, archaeology, genetics, and so on. It is no small feat to be able to hold both views in mind and see how they fit together in a way that does not compromise either the Word of God or scientific methodology. John H. Walton’s book “The Lost World of Genesis One” added some significant insight into the study of origins. In essence, he builds a strong case for the record of Genesis One to be the creation of functions, establishing order, rather than material creation. Our Western Occidental culture is a material fact based culture, the Bible was written to an Eastern Oriental culture which is more based on function than fact.

An example is seen in Genesis 1:16 “And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.” When the translators put this verse into English they added the words “he made,” which is why it is in italics in the King James Version. Our Western culture focused on the material creation so they added the “he made” into the text concerning the stars. If you look at Psalms 136:9 you will see that by the wisdom of God, He made “the moon and stars to rule by night.” The emphasis in Genesis 1:16 is not that He made the stars come into existence, but that He made them to “rule the night,” also. What was “created” in Genesis 1:16 was that these heavenly objects “rule” not that they, at this late date, finally came into material existence.

The emphasis is that now they had a function to perform, instead of just existing they had purpose. This concept brings us back to the 72 year old man who recently passed away. The concept is that there is a reason behind the things that happen in this life. We are hard pressed to understand the “why” of many things, but we must understand that there we are in a fight from the time of our birth until the final victory with Christ.

(Matthew 27:46) If you look at the words of Christ on the cross, properly translated “My God, My God, for this purpose was I spared (kept alive),” you see that it was not until that point that Jesus knew “why” he was able to walk through the crowd in Luke 4:30, and was protected from being stoned in John 8:59 and again in John 10:31. It was not until Jesus had fulfilled his purpose that he was ready to be offered up as the “Passover Lamb.” Likewise, the Apostle Paul had suffered many beatings and extreme circumstances (II Corinthians 11:23-28) but still found reason to continue the fight (Philippians 1:23-25) for the “furtherance of the Gospel” and their joy and rejoicing in Christ. When he had done all he could do we read in II Timothy 4:6, 7 “For now I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure (returning) is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” Purpose fulfilled.

When it comes to fulfilling our purpose there is no retirement. We can retire from a job, but not our life’s purpose. When our true purpose has been completed, we are ready to move on. It is not the end of our existence, we have hope. At the return of Christ you are going to join Him in fulfilling the next purpose God has foreordained for you. Our destiny is to serve God’s purposes.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.

Psalm 16:10, 11 For thou wilt not leave my soul (=me) in he11(sheol- the grave); neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Our continuing purpose will be to serve His purposes with the fullness of joy and pleasures for ever more. That is something encouraging. The sorrow in our lives over the loss of loved ones is not to overcome us, we have hope and an understanding that this is not the end.

Yep folks, Obama got a nice $15 million from his pals and mentors. The Hollywood pals also loved his new stance on homosexual marriage! Surprise Surprise Surprise!

Unfortunately, Hussein will not be gaining any new friends at PETA, unless, PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals. The menu consisted of "artichoke salad followed by roasted duckling "Peking style" with tiny buns, a duo of lamb and beef cheek with potatoes and Brussels sprouts, and sweet corn tortelloni.

Ahhhhhh, a dinner fit for a king!

I wonder how the ducklings are killed?

I never had lamb or beef cheeks before. Are they really that good or do they just like the word cheeks? I bet the lamb isn't smiling!

Anyway, Just thought I would jump back in and try to revive the forum.

Oh, has anybody heard about a dem Senate budget lately?

Tata for now.

The Key to Power

The renewed mind is the “key to power.”

The renewed mind is the key to power, but for many people that is as far as they go in understanding this principle.
Why is the renewed mind the key to power? How does this work and apply to your life? Looking at Romans 12:2 we see that it is the will of God:

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

It is up to you to prove His Will. You cannot prove it to me and I cannot prove it to you.

There are two Greek words that basically mean to “prove by test.” The particular word used here means to examine and determine the characteristics; to assay. In Romans 12:2 it means to examine the Word of God to reveal the goodness of God and the perfection of His will. This is initially mental, as it requires that we change our thinking patterns to line up with what we read in the Word of God, but ultimately it changes the way we live which includes believing and obeying the truth.

Romans 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

The Apostle Paul’s mission as an apostle was for the “obedience to the faith” among all nations. See here also:

Romans 16:25, 26 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began. But now is made manifest and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

This obedience of faith is mightily important.
The first thing you need to understand is the difference between servile obedience and familial obedience: Servants have to obey the orders given or suffer the consequences from their master. They know that if they do not do as they are told that they will be on the receiving end of some form of punishment. They serve out of fear of punishment. The reward for obedience is continued service of the master with all the benefits of the household that he deems good for his servants to have.

Israel, in the Old Testament, was given the Law of God for their obedience. When Israel was obedient, they were rewarded. When Israel disobeyed, they suffered.

Familial obedience is based on love. It is about a child listening to his father. As Christians, our Heavenly Father gives us instruction for guidance to improve our lives. Failure to obey the will of God has consequences as well, like finding yourself living under the circumstances. It is God’s will that we reign in life according to Romans 5:17, so what gives?

Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

It all depends on those moment by moment choices that we make. Our obedience to the family faith is out of our love of God. To obey means to listen with respect and humility as a child does to his father. To what end, you may ask? Righteousness! Wait a minute. The Bible says we are already righteous doesn’t it? Yes, we are righteous now from a legal and spiritual sense. Through the name of Jesus Christ we have the legal authority to stand as those who are completely righteous and make commands with all the authority of Christ Jesus. Let that sink in a minute. So why is it that Christians seem so weak and powerless?

Matthew 8:5-7 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came to him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

Here a Roman, who apparently knew who Christ was, sought out his help with great respect and Jesus said he would come and heal this man’s servant. This is the only time that I can think of where Jesus did not do what he said he was going to do. That should mark this record off as something very spectacular. Your mind should be on alert, bells going off in your head for what is going to be said next.

Matthew 8:8-10 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marveled and said unto them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

You can read this for your whole life and not understand what it means. Jesus marveled because this guy understood. This is one of the greatest truths in the Bible when it comes to understanding the principle of the renewed mind being the key to power. You have the power of God inside of you; it was given to you when you became a Christian believer. That power is potential power, like a battery. This centurion was a man under authority, his chain of command ended in Rome with Caesar. When he spoke to his men, he spoke with the authority of Rome behind him. His authority, his power, his control was because of the authority given to him by Rome. On his own he had no more authority than anyone else, but as a centurion he had power. He understood that Christ only had to speak the Word and his servant would be healed because Christ spoke with the authority of God behind him.

John 5:26, 27, 30 For as the Father hath life in himself; so he hath given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
I can of my own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

The key to the power of God in your life is the renewed mind because: when you are in alignment and harmony with the Will of God you are under the authority of God in a practical way.

We are righteous now. We have received everything we are going to have spiritually, including our authority to stand in Christ’s stead. To get to the place where this potential power is kinetic, where that vertical spiritual ability is useful on the horizontal level of service, requires that we know the Word of God and listen to Him. The essence of Romans 6:16 “righteousness” is when your actions are aligned with your true God-given perfect spiritual nature. Obedience to the faith, walking by the spirit, faithfully walking in fellowship with God puts you under His authority. That is the love of God in the renewed mind in manifestation.

Each of us needs to tap the resources that God has given to us. We have the power of Christ inside of us, there is nothing that can separate you from the love of God. When we confess the truth of God’s matchless word we are a force to be reckoned with. You and God are a majority in every situation.

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

I John 4:4 Ye are of God little children and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do his good pleasure.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

You have heard it before, “seeing is believing.” We live in a world filled with lies and distortions. We are acclimated to mistrust and uncertainty because of this and for good cause, many people for whom we have high expectations have let us down. It seems that everyone has a hidden agenda or motivation. However, this is not a new trend. In Biblical times, the Israelites expected a savior who would free them from oppression and correspondingly there were many who claimed to be that “Savior” to get men to follow them.

Acts 5:36, 37 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

Acts 8:9, 10 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

No one wants to be tricked or thought of as being gullible, but we also should be aware of the danger of being a “doubting Thomas.” Thomas was one of the 12 Apostles of Christ, but when he was told Christ had risen from the dead, he did not believe.

John 20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

The conditioning that we have experienced our whole lives is not to accept outlandish claims at face value. We have seen aliens, zombies, werewolves, vampires, mummies, and many other things that require that we “make believe” or willingly suspend disbelief. But, we do not do this with the Bible. The people whom God has chosen will believe what He says. In a world of voices, we recognize His voice as truth.

Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

When it comes to the Word of God we are like little children who believe what they are told. The rest of the people of the world are unable to do so. They suffer from “heart disease.”

Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

Compare to this verse:

II Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

These are the two types of hearts, the child-like heart of those who believe and the hardened calloused heart that does not believe. Love softens and heals the damaged heart. Christ showed himself to Thomas, that was an act of love. We are Christ representatives in a fallen world, our actions of love will help others to believe.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Is the Bible Without Error?

Is the Bible without Error?

Are you a superficial thinker or are you deeply concerned about the answer?

The superficial thinkers that ask that question usually approach the Bible from one of two directions. Some are intent on showing that the Bible has errors therefore they can dismiss it and do as they please. Others who refuse to think about the deeper ramifications are intent on claiming that there are no errors, because if there were errors- how can you trust it? While one is filled with pride and arrogance, the other is filled with fear, and neither is correct when you look at the Bible with the right attitude.

The superficial groups make up the bulk of mankind, but narrowing down to the deep thinkers there are also two groups of people who have differing views on the Bible. The first are like many of the scholars of academia, who unfortunately elevate themselves believing that the Bible is solely the work of men. These are the ones who believe that the Word of God is “inspired” and therefore it reflects the understanding of the men who wrote. Therefore because Paul thought differently than Mark, any differences are just in the understanding of these men. This makes sense to them because that is how they come up with their theories at institutions of higher learning. It is a case of one man’s senses understanding being pitted against another. Many in this group end up losing the belief that the Bible is the Word of God, at all. The “biblio-ticians” analyze and choose between the various different readings in the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts as they see fit. The Academics have determined what the Bible should say, after all they are the ones with the PhDs, they know the answers…no, they don’t. If they truly knew the answers they would be walking with the power of God just like Apostles did. The Word of God would fit together for them like a hand in a glove and they would be filled with light instead of doubt.

The last group is made of those who study the scriptures believing that the scriptures are more than “inspired,” that, they are indeed the result of “revelation” from God to those Holy men that He chose, to reveal His will to the rest of mankind. The original Word of God given to these men was without error of any kind. There was a purpose behind every word, every phrase, why it was written to whom it was written, how it was written, when and where it was used, (the who, what, when, where, why, and how). The order of the words was perfect, every figure of speech was perfect, every aspect of meaning was purposed to enlighten and empower those who would later stand and speak for Him.

What God revealed was perfect from Genesis all the way to the book of Revelation. However, just as the men of today are adjusting the Bible according to their ability to figure out what God means, the men of old did the same. While Moses’ original was perfect, the text was not always copied down perfectly. By the time of the rebuilding of the Temple there were changes to correct the record. These changes are known by what, in the Biblical research field are called, “witnesses,” manuscripts passed down through the ages to our time. These different texts leave us with some uncertainty about specific things such as the length of the reigns of the various kings of Israel and Judah, or the length of the lives of those recorded in Genesis 5 and 11, for example. This does not change the truth of the events, only the factual data. In the eastern or Oriental world, these things are relatively insignificant. But in our western Occidental way, we consider facts to be all important.

If you refuse to accept that the Bible is the Word of God based on whether a certain King reigned for 15 or 50 years, it is your loss. Whether 65,000 children of Israel left Egypt or one and half million, would it make the Exodus any less true?

There are three major textual witnesses for the Old Testament available to anyone who wants them, the Greek Septuagint, the Hebrew Masoretic text, and the Samaritan Pentateuch. In order to have access to individual variant manuscripts you have to work a little harder, but then you end up being put in that awkward position of, “Which text do “I” think is correct?” Instead of “straining gnats and swallowing camels” it makes more sense to recognize that there are differences and leave it at that. Who are you to determine which is correct? When it comes to matters that are significant, the best approach is to look at how a word fits in the verse, in the context and with all other verses concerning the same subject matter. If a thousand verses say one thing and you have a few unclear verses that appear to say something different, you do not throw out the thousand and make up a doctrine that fits with the four verses. That is the problem with men and women who place themselves above the scriptures and determine what the rest of us should believe.

There is no need to fear that there are some errors in the Bible, King James Version or any of the rest of the various versions out there. There were no errors in the Original God given Word. Instead of having doubts about what the Word of God says, take the time to learn what it says. Read, if you have a question write it down, keep reading. Eventually you will have lots of questions about what different things mean. That is when it is time to do more research, looking up words in Concordances, learning about the customs and manners of the people, etc. Learning is an exciting and rewarding experience. You might also run into others who can help you in your search. I am one of those people.
